Packet Radio Workshop II

Saturday, November 4, 2017, 9:30 - 12:00

500 1st St, Woodland, CA 95695

An introductory workshop for those who are new to, or need refresher on the basics of packet radio, a gateway to powerful digital amateur radio messaging.

This session will focus on getting your computer, TNC and radio connected and communicating.

If time permits, operational aspects will be covered, with plenty of question and answer.

You are asked to bring along your radio, tnc, and a computing device you intend to use for packet.

A hurdle for many is getting the TNC wired to their radio. If you use one of the more common modern radios, you may be able to find a cable for purchase a BUXCOMM. Please have your cables with you when you arrive at the session. Two hours moves quickly. There won't be time at the session to build cables for every variant.

If you build or buy a cable and are having problems, we can assist at the session.

Be sure to purchase or make a cable to connect your computer to your TNC. Again, if you have, and still need help, bring them along and we'll help debug them.

For most people, they will be using a Windows computer with USB port, which may require a USB-RS-232 cable. If you purchase one, be sure to bring along, or install the driver. It usually comes with the cable in the form of a CD, or it can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website.
